If the orange ‘Camera’ light on the Walker is flashing or there is a camera with a cross through it showing on the left side of the Reader display screen:
Check the headphone jack is pushed in completely.
The mini headphone jack on the Walker is tight to ensure that the cable is secure. Make sure that it is pushed all the way in. At the last 1mm you should feel a final click happen. This may require slightly more force to achieve than you expect.
Seriously though, this is usually the problem when we get support calls, so just give it one more little push to be sure.
Make sure the camera model is on our Camera Compatibility List, or at least not on the known incompatible models.
If your camera is not listed at all, try the below steps and please let us know how you go, so that we can help and/or update our lists. If your camera in known incompatible, you will need to switch to a compatible camera.
The Camera may be turned off or asleep
Check that the camera is turned on / turn the camera off and on again (allow 10-20 seconds after turning on the camera for the camera to boot & start talking to Walker).
Make sure that your camera settings are configured in accordance with the Camera Setup instructions (and additional settings for some Sony/Nikon cameras). Things like Auto Power Off / Sleep timers and USB connection type could cause problems here.
Turn the Walker off and on again.
The cable connection may be loose or faulty.
Double check that the physical plugs are plugged in securely - both at the Walker and on the camera.
Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable at each end.
Try gently moving the cable around to find a position where it works.
If none of this works, the cable may be the problem. Try replacing the cable and repeat these steps if needed, or try the same cable on a camera which you know works with Walker (if it works on another camera then it means the cable isn't the problem).
Check your Tether Mode settings
If you are in Sync on Scan Tether Mode the orange Camera light on the Walker will be turned off and the Reader will show a question mark under ‘Pics’ on the Reader screen.
When in ‘Sync on Scan’ mode, the tethered connection with the Camera is dropped on purpose. To trigger a connection between the Walker and the Camera, scan an ID. The connection (and orange light) will only turn on for long enough for the Walker to transfer any new images from the Camera. The information on the Reader will also only update while tethered connection is live.
If you want to work with a continuous connection, change the configuration on the Device page in the ELEMENTICE™ Console. See here for more.
